For many of these boys, they have played soccer their entire lives, but now it’s coming to an end for the seniors. The varsity boys soccer team played Holt for senior night this year on Thursday winning 8-0. The Eagles also wore pink again for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
At 6:25 p.m. on Thursday before the game started, the seniors walked out with their parents. The rest of the players on the team, and the JV boys, stood on each side of them and clapped as the seniors names were called.
The game started at 6:45 and the Eagles were ready to win.
The team started with all of the seniors in the starting lineup instead of the usual starting players.
Corey Lynch (12) got the offense going with getting a goal in the first few minutes of the game.
It took awhile for the Eagles to get another goal, but Hieu Do (12) was able to find the back of the net.
At the end of the first half, Gavin Moyers (12) was also able to get a goal ending the first half.
Coach Luedecke knew that his team can mercy Holt and wanted to get a lot more goals.
As Lynch started off the first half with a goal, he also started this half with a goal, making the score 4-0.
The Eagles kept the ball out of their half but couldn’t score for about 10 minutes. Owen Horan (12) changed that and scored a goal.
Gabe Kahrhoff (12) was also able to make his first goal of the season to raise the score to 6-0.
Near the end of the game, Coach Luedecke put in goalkeeper, Clayton Johnson (12) for fun to see if he could score.
James Naphakorn (11) got a goal from far away in the last few minutes of the game.
Johnson knew he had to get a goal and shot in the last minute of the game and it hit the crossbar and came back down. Everyone was wondering if it actually went in and after a few seconds the ref blew the whistle, meaning it was a goal and we mercied Holt with only a minute remaining.
As we were able to beat Holt we would have beat them faster if it wasn’t for Holt’s amazing goalkeeper, Lucas Casper (12) with 10 saves.
The seniors were asked who on the team they would miss the most after this season and this was their responses:
“All the underclassmen,” Austin Kelly (12) said.
“Moyers because I’ve been playing with him my whole life,” Lynch said.
“Probably Bob [Austin Kelly] he’s just funny,” Ryan Lipski (12) said.
“Austin Kelly,” Do said.
“Bob [Austin Kelly],” Horan said.
“Corey Lynch,” Brendan Lukunka (12) said.
“Jackson Rocco,” Cannon Nord (12) said.
“All of them,” Kahrhoff said.
“Bob [Austin Kelly] because of his energy,” Tyler Meier (12) said.
“All of them,” Moyers said.
“Everyone,” Jackson Rocco (12) said.
“Tyler Meier,” Adrian Campos (12) said.
