The freshman boys team is making waves. With an unblemished 3-0 record, they had triumphed over every rival in the Wentzville School District making them the leading team in the district.
What set them apart wasn’t just their skill, but an unbreakable bond, their brotherhood, forged through years of middle school together and countless hours of shared victory.
One of the season’s defining moments came during a nail-biting game against a district competitor. Seconds ticking away, the score was tied, the tension filled the gym when Brayden Peck (9) launched a two-point shot as the

buzzer sounded. In a swish of destiny, Peck has just sent his team into overtime, eventually winning the game.
“Hitting that buzzer felt really good, especially when all my teammates came and crowded around me and when we celebrated in the locker room,” Peck said.
Other team highlights of this season so far include the game against Timberland. Coach Purcell had the opportunity to coach against his younger brother, who coaches at Timberland. They have not coached against each other since 2018 when he coached at Fort Zumwalt North and Purcell was at Fort Zumwalt East with Coach Ogle. A team highlight for that game was Aiden Mathews putting his body on the line to save a position by getting on the floor.
Playing Holt, it was the the ability to get the win after the snow days and Thanksgiving break, with not much prep time. Also that was a complete team win for them.
“We really have a great group of kids in this program and are very lucky to have Coach Castillo helping me with this group,” Purcell said. “At North Point, it is easy to say Brayden Peck’s game-tying buzzer beater. But that would not have been possible without Will Schultz (9) getting the jump ball and before that Kingston Johnson (9) and Aaron Carlton (9) trapping the ball.”
The team’s highlights so far in their high school journey is just the beginning.
