This last Friday on Jan. 9 the boys and girls basketball teams played Francis Howell North at the Nest. The girls ended with a final score of 57-45 and the boys ended with a final score of 58-54, both in favor of Howell North.
The girls played first and the Knights were able to play good defense throughout the first quarter but eventually with three minutes left in the first quarter Addi Schultz (10) shot and scored giving the Eagles two points.
The girls played strong throughout the whole game up until the beginning of the fourth quarter. The score at the end of the third was 41-36 with the Eagles only needing several points to get ahead. Unfortunately, the Knights stepped up their game and ended the game with an 11-point lead.
“Our practices are fine, I just think we need to stay positive,” Bryn Schell (9) said.
Ally Greer (11) was the top scorer for the Eagles with a team-best 20 points while Schultz added 12.
The boys also played a strong game throughout and it was another game that came down to the wire. The Eagles trailed 36-31 at the start of the third quarter, and the scoring went back-and-forth to end the game. Liberty took a timeout with 20 seconds left in the fourth quarter down by five points trying to put a plan together to try and find a way to even up the game. Ultimately, it was too much to overcome and the Eagles did everything they could and fell short 58-54 to the Knights.
Colin Ashby (11) led the Eagles in scoring with 14 points while Mason Meyer (12) contributed 13.
Multiple Eagles players were very disappointed with the results on Friday. Joe Trost (10) was one of those players.
“I feel we played pretty good but there are lots of room for improvements,” Trost said. So far this season the boys team currently has a record of 3-8 while the girls drop to 4-5.
“I see potential with everybody associated with the team and I have a feeling that we can turn our season around sooner rather than later,” Trost said.
