Why did you start this sport: I started when I was at Immanuel Lutheran in sixth grade just playing because my friends were, at this time I was a gymnast. I eventually found so much love and desire to play basketball. I quit gymnastics after being in the sport for about 10 to 11-ish years. I had and knew I had so much love and passion for basketball.
Pre-game ritual: I sit in my car for a couple minutes before I go into the school to either get on the bus, or head to the school for a home, or away game, I listen to “Stay” by Rihanna. I also always pray, and I have a little red bracelet that I wear every game under my long sleeve shirt and I will never ever play a game without it.
Best memory ever from the sport: During the summer of 2025 we were at an out-of-town tournament. I had two 3-pointers back-to-back to tie the game, they then scored and we were down by two. I ended up having another 3-pointer to help us win the game by one point. Another memory is the first game of the season this year, the energy was amazing, we were playing Timberland, and we ended up going into overtime and winning. My last favorite memory was breaking a couple of school records.
Proudest moment in the sport: Just watching myself grow as a person, teammate, and athlete overall. It is amazing to be able to watch your team grow together, and individually. I am also and will always be proud of myself for not giving up on those days, or in those moments when I felt drained and was ready to quit. I will always be so proud of myself for never giving up, persevering, and accomplishing everything I have already accomplished, and am yet to accomplish.
Biggest motivation: To be able to get a college scholarship, and to make my parents proud so they know that they raised a hard working person, who wakes up every day determined to reach her goals in life, and use all of my potential to the max.
Are you planning to do this sport in the future/college: Yes I am planning on playing this sport in college. I am going on my first college visit on Feb. 16.
How do you stay focused when you’re under pressure: Sometimes crowds will start talking to you, saying your number and then strange things, and also sometimes yelling your name. In situations like those, or even just a very close tough game, I always pray and remember to take a deep breath and focus on the present, not the past, not the future, but what is going on in that moment, even second.
What advice would you give to someone starting this sport: When things get hard, don’t give in. You will get broken down time and time again, It’s not about how you react to it, it is how you get back up and learn and grow from it. Say it is a really close game, and you keep making faces and reacting and yelling at refs, people will remember that for maybe 10 seconds, but if there is a bad call, play, or ect. And you do not react to it and you go play good defense and score and continuously keep working hard, people are more likely to remember that. NEVER GIVE UP. When you put the hours and work in, good things ALWAYS come out of the work.
What is the most rewarding part about being an athlete in your sport: Watching younger kids fall in love with the sport and showing up with a smile on their face everyday ready to get to work. Also it is so rewarding to work hard in those lonely dark hours, then you get to a game and it pays off. Last thing is people will look up to you and knowing you are actively inspiring people and being a role model, that can change the way someone sees you, or the sport.
What’s so different about you being an athlete compared to other athletes: Something about me and other athletes is, I never force anything. What I mean by that is I don’t want to be a selfish teammate, I don’t want people to not think that they can approach me, I don’t give people any of those reasons to call me something negative, or think I am a bad teammate. I also am always working very hard. Right after games I go to the gym to help recover my body and stretch. I wake up super early in the mornings to get a lift in.
